Happy Easter!

Two eggs I painted for Easter amidst the other eggs that were died using onion skins (another traditional Polish thing).  Hope everyone had a restful weekend!

Krówki

Krówki (Polish carmels)

Krówki (Polish carmels)

Krówki (Polish carmels)

Easter's only a couple days away, and already my Mom surprised me with some Polish candy.  If you've never tried krówki get thee to a European market at once.  They are so good-- that's if you like sickeningly sweet carmel that is.  'Krówki' translates to 'little cows'.  Isn't that a fun candy name?

I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend.  I'll be spending mine in typical Polish family fashion with boisterous relatives, traditional food, and painting eggs for our family basket.  I'll try to snap some pictures of them to share with you!

A New ACEO in Progress

ACEO Painting in progress.

I've been trying to wrap my brain around designing in Wordpress recently for my website.  It's a little trickier than I expected it to be (because of course I'd become an HTML, CSS, and theme construction pro in a day), but I think I'm starting to get the hang of things.  I think . . .

In any case, after hours of going blind from staring at my computer screen, I realized I hadn't painted a square inch in days.  Turns out it was just the thing I needed to refocus and relax.  I worked on some of the old works in progress (like the boxes and small canvases) and started some new things, like this ACEO.  I'm hoping to strike a better balance between web design and painting this week.

Oil Underpainting

As you can tell from the title of this post, I did something yesterday afternoon that I haven't done in a while - I started an oil painting.

When I recently organized my room (aka my studio), I picked up my box of oil painting supplies and thought, "Hey, I haven't painted with these in a while.  How cool would it be to use them all up and get rid of that Turpenoid jar once and for all?"

And that's just what I started doing yesterday.  The weather's warmed up a lot lately, which makes my balcony the perfect spot for oil painting in the afternoon.  I can't believe its almost two years since I last painted with oils.  I don't miss the toxic smell, but the texture?  There's nothing like it.  Saying goodbye to them is going to be bittersweet.  (Looks like I'll have plenty of time to say my farewells though.  I have enough paint to last quite a while!)

Prints

Prints from original art by Veronica Kosowski.

Exciting news!  After shopping around and getting some test prints done, I'm finally beginning to offer prints in my shop.  I've started out with ACEOs of the Little Woodland Owl, The Boy of Leaf and Twig, and The Coming of Spring for now, but I'll be expanding to more sizes and images soon.  Any favorites that you'd love to see in print form?

Sleepy Afternoon

Sleepy afternoon today.  I think I'll try to fix this with yoga and a quick walk to wake up.  Don't worry paints, you won't even notice I was gone.

Little Round Box

I've always loved little wooden boxes.  Whenever I go to a thrift fair or flea market they're one of the things I enjoy scouring the tables for.  They make good places to stash jewelry, old buttons, feathers, and other little keepsakes, like little treasure chests.

Recently I decided it would be fun to paint some boxes of my own for others to put their collected odds and ends in.  Here's my first experiment!  I painted this box golden brown, keeping it simple with some thin bands circling the sides and a face on the top.  It's small enough to perch on the palm of a hand.

I'm looking forward to painting more of these, experimenting with different colors and images.  I'm thinking of making some of them more elaborate, with little paintings all around like the Russian lacquer boxes I love so much.  We'll see!
